Move-in Day

This morning we officially moved into our new place! We have been filling the apartment with furniture since last Friday, bit by bit, using the Adventure Van as our moving vehicle. We returned the van to the shop on Tuesday morning, for A/C and seatbelt work. But today, we officially packed up the rest of the items in our Airbnb and made the final push over to the new digs. It feels great to finally be in the space we know we'll be in for awhile. We've been basically nomads since Nov. 20th, so after two and a half months on the road, settling in feels wonderful. Here are how the rooms look with the new (to us) furniture. Is it HGTV worthy? No. But even if I had unlimited dinero, that would still be unachievable for me; I simply don't have the decorating gift. But, is it livable and comfortable? Yes. Most of our stuff came from three families who were all moving or renovating, we so bought many items from one place in the hopes of bulk discounts. Drew, to his dismay, learned that negotiating and/or discounting is not commonplace here. One lady said she'd give us a discount for purchasing over $1K worth of stuff from her, and her discount amount was $30. Nice. Jajajajaja, which is how people here text Hahaha. Jajaja.

The best part about this apartment is definitely the light. I don't think I quite realized how nice it is until we had our walkthrough after signing the lease. It really is lovely.

The couch we found was owned by a lady with dog, and it had "Trig" hair, meaning needle-like hair that gets stuck, or more accurately woven, into upholstery and won't come out with a standard vacuuming. Hand picking is required. It sounds terrible, but it actually brings back fond memories for me of Trig.

The kitchen looks so much better with the appliances installed! Drew did 100% of the work on finding those; good work babe.

It wouldn't be a Kirchner house without the obligatory coat racks overstuffed with jackets of all sorts, bags, hats, helmets, you name it.

The guest room! With blackout curtains to help you adjust to the new time zone. Who's going to claim it first?

Boys' room. They are already making themselves at home playing "Costco," hence the smorgasbord on the bed. Don't look too closely, but all of those tupperware containers on the nightstand are half gallon ice cream containers that Grandpa and I alone crushed the last month. Solid work I'd say.

Master bedroom.

All in all, we're very happy with how it turned out. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Drew's parents, Brian and Karen, as they took care of the boys while Drew and I were running around town all month. They also did the majority of the cooking, which was a lovely break from normal parental responsibilities. Grandma and Grandpa flew back to MI last night, and it's safe to say the boys were deeply torn up about it. Emerson even asked if we could move back to Colorado so we could be closer to them. The same thing happened when we left my family in Colorado. It makes you momentarily question why we chose to do this strange thing. But, then today the boys were playing with kids in the park, asking them "puedo jugar contigo?" and our decision was reaffirmed. Yes, being away from family sucks, but hopefully the skills and lessons they learn in the two and a half short years we are here will make up for it.
